What is PRP and how does it work?
PRP (Platelet-rich Plasma) treatments have been used since the 1980s for racehorses and then for NFL players’ joints and subcutaneous tissue to heal faster and recover better from injury.
Since the 1990s, PRP has been successfully used in orthopedics and sports medicine. In the 21st Century, it has been extensively researched in the field of cell therapy and tissue regeneration. PRP utilization has shown its ability to stimulate and attract stem cell activity to improve wound healing and rejuvenate human tissue. PRP also contains stem cells, which have been utilized in other medical specialties such as dentistry, facial reconstruction, neurosurgery, dermatology, and cosmetic and plastic surgery.
PRP has proven to be effective in creating a fuller, more youthful appearance in other areas of the body such as the face. As PRP for facial rejuvenation (also known as the Vampire Facelift® and Vampire Facial®) became increasingly popular, it expanded into other, more intimate areas, creating the O-Shot®, the Priapus Shot (P-Shot®), Vampire Hair Regrowth®, Vampire Breast Lift®, and the Vampire Wing Lift®.
How PRP stimulates the rate and degree of tissue healing, regeneration or rejuvenation of new cellular tissue and follicular hair growth is by the release and utilization of growth factors. Also included in is miraculous biological process are alpha granules of glycogen and lysosomes. These granules and intracellular structures within the PRP release clotting and growth factors when activated. These aid in the healing and rejuvenation of the body’s natural repair process. Some of these 38 growth factors include the following:
- Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) – Promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication, skin formation
- Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b) – Promotes growth of matrix between cells, bone metabolism
- Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) – Promotes blood vessel formation
- Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) – Promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation, collagen formation, and skin formation
- Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) – Promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessel formation
- Insulin Like Growth Factor (IGF) – Is a regulator of normal physiology in nearly every type of cell in the body
- Interleukin (IL-1) – Regulates host defenses and is an immunoadjuvant

The Center for Sexual Medicine is proud to offer exciting Vampire treatments in Lake Success, NY. Dr. Robert Jason trained with Dr. Charles Runels, creator of the Vampire® procedures, to learn his techniques. Only members of the Vampire Hair Regrowth® provider group know how to perform the procedure and own the license to use the name.
Robert Jason, MD, is a licensed provider of the trademark Vampire® procedures. As a member, he adheres to Dr. Runels’s strict protocol to ensure safe and optimal results in the preparation of the PRP and the administration of the treatment. Be aware that many offer a similar process. However, if they are not a member of the Vampire Hair Regrowth® provider group, it may be an inferior process. Not everyone injects in the same manner, and not everyone prepares the Platelet-Rich Plasma the same way.
How is Vampire Hair Regrowth® performed?
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm. Then using an FDA-approved centrifuge, platelets are concentrated and separated, into what is known as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), all within about 10 to 15 minutes in the office. The platelets are then prepared or “activated” to release at least thirty-eight known growth factors. This biogenic agent is similar to the “yellow goo” also known as the “Ultimate Natural Elixir” that formed around your scraped knee as a child. These growth factors work like nothing else and cause the body to increase the growth of collagen, nerve, and vascular tissue.
The areas on the scalp to be injected are numbed with a local anesthetic, stronger than are used for many cosmetic techniques. Then Dr. Jason uses a small needle to carefully and gently place precise amounts of PRP scalp in selected locations. Patients tell us that they feel little pain from the procedure. In fact, Dr. Jason had the procedure performed on himself.

Vampire Hair Regrowth® at the Center for Sexual Medicine in Lake Success, NY, uses Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), extracted from the patient’s own blood and injected into the scalp in numerous locations, is safe and comfortable. Because Vampire Hair Regrowth® utilizes Platelet-Rich Plasma from a person’s own blood and is not a chemical or synthetic substance, it is completely safe! No serious adverse reactions have been reported; that’s right, “zero” after 10s of 1000s of procedures. The entire procedure takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Good nutrients and healthy lifestyles enhance the benefits of the procedure.
After a few weeks, the stem cells and the scalp tissues in the injected areas grow and regenerate, causing an increase in blood flow and hair regeneration by stimulating the growth of healthy hair by strengthening and elongating hair follicles. It also stimulates the regrowth of old hair follicles and shafts in dormant follicles into the active growth phase.*
Sometimes ACell or BioD Extracellular and mesotherapy (vitamins) are injected with the PRP, but frequently these are not needed. Microneedling can also be performed but is not always required.
